Overview
The Financial Accountant will support the Finance Manager and Chief Accountant in all aspects of company finance and has specialist responsibilities in the areas of statutory accounting, certain compliance activities, accurate tax treatment, internal audit and company insurance. This will include various submissions to government departments & accountants, and record-keeping
Duties and responsibilities:
Statutory Audit and Accounting
- Involvement in the Statutory Audits
- Ensure that all Statutory Accounts are prepared and accurate for the different legal entities within
- the business (UK & Overseas)
- Liaise with external auditors and overseas accountants as appropriate
- Ensure consistent and accurate balance sheet reporting including the production and review of
- monthly balance sheet reconciliations and balance sheet reporting
Compliance and Taxes
- Ensure that the business is compliant with all legal requirements for the different legal entities
- within the business (UK & Overseas)
- Subscribe to information sources, and as far as possible make relevant staff and managers aware of compliance changes and provide guidance to other staff as to where further information can be found
- Ensure accurate treatment and compliance of all relevant taxes, including reviewing of:
- Corporation tax, Deferred tax, Payroll taxes
- Quarterly VAT returns
- Import/Export VAT Treatment
- Overseas taxation as appropriate & Overseas compliance as appropriate
R&D Tax Credits
- Develop policies, processes and financial reports to assist management in making appropriate claims for R&D Tax Credits
- Work with the R&D team to ensure information is accurately gathered, recorded and submitted
Cash Management and Cashflow
- Monitoring, evaluating and forecasting daily cash position and longer-term cash flow for all entities
- Ensure accurate reporting of cash positions and forward plans
- Assist in developing strategies to optimise cash position of the business in all currencies
- Develop financial reports to assist management in making appropriate decisions regarding cash management
Intercompany Balances
- Ensure intercompany balances are reconciled and that year end processes regarding intercompany are completed and can be easily identifiable Fixed Assets, Demo Equipment, Testing Equipment & Leases Management
- Effective maintenance of the fixed assets (to include demo equipment and test equipment) and depreciation schedules
- Keep track of the physical location of all assets
- Effective maintenance of company leases
Company Insurance
- Work with Company Insurance Brokers to ensure adequate and up-to-date cover for all insurance needs of the business
Financial Policies
- Ensure that the Financial Policies are being followed
- Perform internal audit assessments
- Ensure the integrity of the profit and loss and balance sheet
- Identify potential improvements to financial policies, finance processes and finance systems
Other
- Ensure that there are work instructions for all finance department tasks
- Ensure that all documents are filed appropriately within the company network, protected by file access permission
- Undertake training as required
